The Cancer Association of Zimbabwe (CAZ) has expressed concern over the non-functional of chemotherapy machines in public health institutions, saying it is negatively impacting on patient cancer management.
CAZ Information and Evaluation Officer Lovemore Makurirofa said cancer patients are currently stranded as a result of the break down of radiotherapy machines at Parirenyatwa Hospital, adding that interruption of cancer treatment is a major drawback in the recovery of patients.
Mr Makurirofa also implored Government to decentralise cancer treatment centres to ensure patients access services nearer to their homes.
Most patients travel to Harare for cancer treatment at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and Sally Mugabe Central Hospital formerly Harare Central Hospital.
Zimbabwe is among countries projected to witness about an 85 percent increase in cancer burden by 2030.
