Chinamasa, Mtetwa receive letters of appointment to regional posts

Former Cabinet minister Patrick Chinamasa and ex-permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dr Andrew Mtetwa have received letters of appointment to the Southern African Development Community Panel of Elders and Mediation Reference Group respectively which seek to foster peace in the region. 

The two were handed the letters together with other members by Sadc outgoing Chairperson of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Cooperation Mokgweetsi Masisi in Gaborone, Botswana on Tuesday. 

The appointments to the groups mandated to provide technical expertise in conflict resolution and mediation, comes less than a month after Zimbabwe was elected into the African Union Peace and Security Council a vital continental organ that deals with prevention, management and resolution of conflicts. 

Chinamasa joins former Tanzania President Jakaya Kikwete and ex Mauritius Vice President Paramasivum Vyapoory on the four member panel.

Dr mtetwa will sit on the four member Mediation Reference Group which includes appointees from Botswana, Zambia, and Tanzania.
