Government open to working with NGOs

Government says it is open to working with Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), but the entities should also be cognisant and adhere to domestic laws governing their operations.

Presenting a lecture titled “Legitimacy and Accountability of International Non-Governmental Organisations (INGOs) and NGOs in Zimbabwe: Implication for national security”, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister Professor Paul Mavima said Zimbabwe is not the only country that regulates Private Voluntary Organisations and will not watch such entities operate outside the law.

This comes as public hearings are ongoing for the Private Voluntary Organisations Bill, which among other things seeks enhanced accountability from the associations after authorities noted that some were meddling in the country's political affairs.
