President Emmerson Mnangagwa has hailed giant cement manufacturer PPC Zimbabwe for injecting $US40 million , into a 27 mega watt solar project, for its plants in Bulawayo and Colleen Bawn in Gwanda, while supplying about half of the power to the national grid.
In a speech read on his behalf, on Tuesday during a ground-breaking ceremony for the project in Bulawayo by Industry and Commerce Minister Sekai Nzenza, the President urged other companies to invest in green energy and reduce carbon emissions.
Speaking at the same occasion, PPC Zimbabwe head of supply chain and strategic projects Dr Marvelous Sibanda stressed the need to invest in clean power generating projects to augment electricity shortages in the country and the region, to ensure smooth operations.
This comes as authorities have been licencing independent power producers in a bid to make the country's electricity self sufficient.
