Africa launches Covid -19 vaccine e-passport

Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention has launched an African Union Covid -19 vaccine e-passport aimed at easing travel within and outside the continent.

Speaking during the virtual launch of the passport today, Africa CDC acting head, Ahmed Ogwell said the pass will soon expand its bracket to include other vaccines such as the yellow fever inoculation.

He added that the Africa CDC is also holding talks to link the passport to other global systems.

The passport will be in digital format where a quick response code, will be scanned to show proof that one has been fully vaccinated against covid-19 and has a valid vaccine certificate.
