Call for deterrent sentences for child abusers

Women and girl’s rights activists have called for deterrent sentences for child abusers and those who conceal cases of violation of the rights of minors.

Girls and Women Empowerment Trust team leader Kumbirai Kahiya and Women Action Group executive director Edinah Masiiwa spoke to Zimpapers Radio News, following reports of another nine year old from Bindura Mashonaland Central Province who is six months pregnant after being raped by two 17 year olds who have since been arrested.

In just a fortnight there has been serious cases of sexual violence against children coming under spotlight with an 8-year-old Macheke girl reportedly raped by her father and three other relatives while a 9 year-year-old Tsholotsho child gave birth and a Marondera couple being apprehended for allegedly molesting their children.
