Farmers have expressed mixed reactions over recent pre-planting producer prices for controlled crops like maize, traditional grains and oil pressing seeds, announced by government yesterday.
Speaking to Zimpapers Radio News, Zimbabwe Integrated Commercial Farmers’ Union president Maitawepi Jiti, Zimbabwe Commercial Farmers’ Union president Shadreck Makombe and Zimbabwe Indigenous Women Farmers Trust president Depinah Nkomo said while there is concern from responsible authorities to adjust the prices there is room to increase them further to enhance agriculture viability.
Government announced a pre planting price of $335 United States Dollars per tonne for maize and traditional grains, with soya beans pegged at 600 US dollars per tonne while sunflower is pegged at 690 US dollars per tonne.
